How I ended up as a Digital Nomad
One of my key values is growth and expansion. And after 4 years of living in Chicago at a similar job I was feeling very stagnant. One thing I’ve been trying to work on is how to better use this energy. If it’s harnessed correctly it fuels me and takes me where I want to go. If not I tend to be running up the wall in all the wrong directions. I like ot think of a mouse in a maze just lost and wasting energy.
I knew I wanted to move, but when I decided to move out of Chicago. I still didn’t feel like it was enough. I knew I was going to bring my now frusterated energy with me just be in a new city. So I started to listen to myself…
And my voice was saying to go to Paris. Which originally I was very confused by this. The last time I went to Paris I didn’t even like the city that much and it just wasn’t making sense. So I tried to ignore it and it kept coming up. I decided to even explore other European cities to live in and I kept coming back to Paris.
Now that I had a city the next hurdle I had was my job. There was an ongoing rumor that we could not work out of the country. As I looked into our policy I noticed it was only 10 days and then I started to get creative. I knew if I were to do a month, I could take some PTO, offer to help with the European team and make it work with only working 10 days. The next time I talked to my manager, I proposed this and it was an immediate yes.
And I was shocked… I thought for sure it was going to be harder and not only was it a yes from work, but everyone was excited! Did I assume wrong.
Then, I started to want to check out Boulder. I’ve never lived in a place that had hiking and the appeal started to ignite me. Unfortuntley when I looked into 1 month rentals there wasn’t much, so I didn’t think it would happen. Then all of a sudden an airbnb opened up. I immediately booked it and knew it was meant to me.
Now after a month in Miami, I’m going a little over a month in Paris, a month in Boulder then the plan is to settle into Miami… but we will see if any magic changes that.
