Amsterdam Travel Guide

Canal in Amsterdam

I spent 3 days in Amsterdam in 2022 and was shocked by much I loved it. The city gives off an easy going vibe and it's the perfect place to eat a mix of food, visit museums and be outside. Use my guide on restaurants and activities for your next trip!

Museums

Museum Van Loom Located right in the Canal district this is a preserved house of the Van Loom family. This wasn’t initially on my list, but was a nice change of pace from the crowded more well known museums. It’s easy to access and amazing to see first hand how a family lived in the 17th century.

Rijksmuseum Huge museum with lots of Rembrandt. It’s a busy museum and I’d recommend a tour, so you can focus on the top pieces unless you want to spend half a day wandering around

Van Gogh Museum Buy your ticket in advance! I did not and wasn’t able to go on this trip. I’ve been on a previous trip but was still pretty bummed that it was booked out.

Anne Frank House A must do for many reasons

Cafe de jaren, on the canal

Where to Eat and Drink

De Deli-Plantagebuurt Great spot to grab a coffee or tea

Box Sociaal Australian spot for breakfast or brunch

Brouwerij 't IJ Grab a beer and enjoy some snacks next to a windmill. All the tables are community, so great to meet fellow travelers and locals

Mangia Pizza & Wine I loved their pizza so much I ate here twice

Red Chillies Casual spot I went to when I needed some variety in my meals and something other than pizza and seafood

Café de Jaren My first stop after arriving in Amsterdam to grab a salad, beer and sit on the canal. It gets busy on a nice day

Pluk Essential cute cafe with amazing pancakes

The Seafood Bar Great seafood spot. Get a tower after shopping and enjoy!

Pancake at Pluk

Where to Get Outside

Vondelpark I think I went here everyday and loved watching the birds and walking around. There is also a brewery in the park Proeflokaal 't Blauwe Theehuis that is worth checking out
Vondelpark Must haves include any of the nigiris, lomo saltado and el chingon to drink

De 9 Straatjes Lots of shopping and areas to get your canal pics
